Pra falar a verdade nao estava muito ansiosa para ver "Lua Nova" (2009). De longe, e o livro que eu menos gosto da serie. Mas ao mesmo tempo estava curiosa para ver se - com mais dinheiro para a producao do segundo filme - eles melhoraram os efeitos, a maquiagem, etc, entao fui conferir no fim de semana de estreia. Um milhao de pre-adolescentes gritando enlouquecidas no cinema, mas ok. Achei o filme ate bem fiel ao livro, mas sei la... nunca saio do cinema feliz, satisfeita e suspirando como os livros fazem comigo - o mesmo vale para "Crepusculo" (2008). Vejo so por amor os livros; Robert Pattinson e lindo, mas nao gosto do jeito que ele interpreta o Edward, ele deixa o personagem muito duro e frio, o que todo mundo que le os livros sabe que e exatamente o contrario. A mera existencia da Kirsten Stewart me irrita, maas nao acho que ela faz uma Bella ruim. O Taylor Lautner, bombou, tirou a peruca, e faz um Jacob bom. Na verdade, acho o eleco todo meio duro e os coadjuvantes mal escalados, maaas enfim. Como ja disse antes: fa que e fa assiste e espera pelo melhor!

To tell you the thruth I wans't dying to watch "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" (2009). By far, it's the book I like the least from the series. But at the same time I was curious to see if - with more money to produce the second movie - they had improved the special effects, makeup, etc, so I went to check it out on the opening weekend. A million teenager screaming like crazy at the movie theather but ok. I actually found the movie somewhat faithful to the book, but I dont know... I never leave the movie theather happy, satisfied and in love like the books do to me - the same goes to "Twilight" (2008). I watch only for love for the books; Robert Pattinson is gorgeous, but I don't like the way he plays Edward, he makes him hard and cold, something that everyone that reads the books knows it is exactly the contrary. The mere existence of Kirsten Stewart annoys me, buut I still think she makes a decent Bella. Taylor Lautner built up, took off the wig and made a good Jacob. Actually I think that the whole cast is kind of hard and badly casted, buut oh well. Like I said before: a true fan has to watch it and hope for the best!

Seguindo "This is It" (2o09), pulamos para "Atividade Paranormal" (2009). O filme estava batendo recordes de bilheteria aqui nos EUA, todo mundo falando o tanto que assustava e que era a nova "Bruxa de Blair" (1999), critica elogiando, bem pontuado no Rotten Tomatoes, ... Tive que conferir. Pena, preferia nao ter ido. Achei o filme chato e idiota, ressoava falsidade, nao entrei no clima nem um minuto e acabei cochilando (o que eu raramente fao no cinema). Me falaram que o final assusta bastante, maaas nao fiquei acordada pra isso. Sei que muitas pessoas ja viram e vao ver, mas eu destestei e so pra constar nao chega nem perto de "A Bruxa de Blair"!

Following "This is It" (20090, we skipped to "Paranormal Activity" (2009). The movie was breaking records here in the US, everyone talking about how scary it was and how it is the new "Blair Witch Project" (1999), the critics were good, it has a good score on Rotten Tomatoes,... I had to see it. Too bad, I wish I didn't. I found the movie boring and silly, it echoed faking, I was never into it for a minute and I ended up falling asleep (something I rarely do at the movies). I was told that the end is pretty scarry buuut I wasn't awake for it. I know many people have seen the movie and others will, but I hated it and just for the record it doesn't even come close to the "Blair Witch Project"!

Que fa do Michael Jackson no aguardava ansiosamente os shows de Londres? E que fa nao ficou arrasado com a noticia da morte dele? Logo veio um minimo de esperanca de ver o que poderia ter sido; foi anunciado o lancamento do documentario "This is it" (2009), com cenas sobre os ensaios que eles fazia para os shows. Eu nao sei voces, mas logo pensei que isso era so mais um jeito de ganhar dinheiro com o Rei. Surpresa boa quando finalmente consegui ver o filme. O documentario e super legal e voce fica feliz ao ver o Michael dancando, cantando, ensaiando e controlando os minimos detalhe do show. E ao mesmo tempo voce fica triste porque seria um retorno triunfal. Nas palavras de Madonna, "vida longa ao rei!"

What Michael Jackson fan didn't anxiously wait for the London concerts? And what fan wasn't crushed by the news of his death? Soon came a drop of hope to see what could have been; it was announced the release of the documentary "This is it" (2009), with scenes of the rehearsals he was doing for the concerts. I don't know about you, but I soon tought that this was another scam to make money from the King. Good surprise when I finally managed to see the movie. The documentary is really cool and you are happy to see Michael dancing, singing, rehearsing and controlling the minimum details of the show. And at the same time you are sad because it would have been an amazing comeback. In the words of Madonna, "long live the king!".

Primeiro filme em IMAX da minha vida, "Onde Vivem Os Monstros" (2009), foi ansiosamente esperado. Nunca li o livro, nao sei se pretendo; talvez para ter uma nocao da fidelidade do filme, mas quem leu ja me disse que ficou bem parecido. Gostei bastante do filme, mas nao foi tudo que eu esperava. Ele nao despertou em mim a inspiracao que normalmente vem dos filmes que acho sensacionais. Mas ainda assim e um otimo filme, o menininho e um fofo, os monstros sao super bem feitos, as vozes - todas famosas - combinam bem com os personagens, a trilha sonora e bem legal e a fotografia e linda. Achei a historia super interessante e possibilita muita reflexao (ainda tenho muito o que pensar e conclusoes a fazer). Nao tem muito como o Spike Jonze errar ne?

P.S: Destaque pro material de divulgacao do filme; os posters e a tipografia eram lindos.

First movie I saw on IMAX in my life, "Where The Wild Things Are" (2009), was expected with anxiety. Never read the book and I don't know if I will; maybe to have a better notion of the fidelity of the movie, but those who read it told me it's similar. I really liked the movie but it wasn't all I expected. It didn't awake in me the inspiration that the movies I find outstanding do. But even so it is still a great movie, the little boy is cute, the monsters were well done, the voices - all famous - match well with the characters, the soundtrack is pretty cool and the cinematography is gorgeous. I found the story really interesting and allows a lot of reflections (I still have a lot to think about and many conclusions to be made). Spike Jonze can't go much wrong right?

P.S: Special attention to the advertising material; the posters and typography were amazing.

DVD | Brothers Bloom (2008)

Quem chamou minha atencao para "Brothers Bloom" (2008) foi meu amigo Charlos, a um bom tempo atras; o trailer era legal e os atores nem se fala. Mas o filme nunca estreiava no Brasil. Surpresa quando fui na Blockbuster aqui e encontrei o filme pra alugar. Os atores sao otimos, na medida que a historia permite. Pena, porque Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo e Adrien Brody sao um timao. Me diverti ate o final, que e pessimo e simplesmente destroi o filme. A lembranca final e de um filme bem mediano.

Who called my attention to "Brothers Bloom" (2008) was my frined Charlos, a long time ago; the trailer was cool and the actors I don't even need to mention. But the movie would never be released in Brazil. Big surprise when I went to Blockbuster in NYC and found the movie for renting. The actors are great, in what the story allows them to be. Too bad, because Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody are a great cast. I was amused till the end, that it is horrible and simply destroys the movie. The final memory is of a very average movie.

DVD | Rudo y Cursi (2008)

Ja na terra do Tio Sam, o primeiro filme que eu vi foi "Rudo y Cursi" (2008). De elenco a dupla Gael Garcia Bernal e Diego Luna, com direcao de Carlos Cuaron - irmao do Alfonso Cuaron, que juntou a dupla pela primeira vez em "Y Tu Mama Tambien" (2001). O filme conta a historia de dois irmaos mexicanos pobres que amam jogar futebol; um ganha a chance da vida, mas o que ele quer mesmo e ser cantor, e o outro nao, mas luta para consegui-la. O filme e legalzinho, mas nada sensacional, passa longe do potencial que os dois atores podem atingir, mas fa que e fa assiste ne? haha

Already at Uncle Sam's land, the first movie I saw was "Rudo y Cursi" (2008). For casr you have the team Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, with direction by Carlos cuaron - brother of Alfonso Cuaron, the first one to put the duo together in "Y Tu Mama Tambien" (2001). The movie tells the story of two poor mexican brothers that love playing soccer; one gets his lifetime chance, but what he really wants is to become a singer, the other doesn't, but struggles to get it. The movie is nice but nothing sensational, it's far from the potential these two can achieve, but once a fan... haha

Antes de viajar, tive o prazer de sair com a minha amiga Silvinha. Decidimos ver um filme e a escolha foi "My Sister's Keeper" (2009). Sabia que ia ser triste, mas eu tava esperando um final triste. Nao a continuacao de "O Oleo de Lorenzo"! O filme e TODO triste; voce chora do comeco ao fim e sai de la um bagaco. A menina doente e muito boa, a Abigail Breslin tambem, a Cameron Diaz ta la tentando pra variar, o Jason Patric voce so consegue olhar pro queixo dele (kkk)... Se voce estiver deprimido e quiser afogar as magoas, esse e um bom pedido.

Before I travelled. I had the pleasure of hanging out with my friend Silvinha. We decided to see a movie and the choice was "My Sister's Keeper" (2009). I knew it was going to be said byt I didn't know it was going to be the sequel to "Lorenzo's Oil"! The movie is ALL sad; you cry from beggining to end; and you get out completely drained. The sick girl is very good, Abigail Breslin too, Cameron Diaz is trying as usual, Jason Patric you can only notice his chin (haha)... If you are depressed and want to drown your sorrows this is a good pick.

"Adventure is out there!"

Tava super ansiosa para ver "Up - Altas Aventuras" (2009). Apostei horrores no 3D e nem concentrei em saber da historia. Uns dias antes de ver o filme dei uma lida na Veja e ai veio mais uma das raras vezes que eles me interessaram ainda mais para ver alguma coisa. Acontece que eles comentaram que a sequencia inicial era linda! Em uns 15 minutos de filme eles contam a historia da vida do velhinho, sem nenhuma fala (com excecao do comecinho). Mas comove tanto! Com uma sucessao de imagens, voce entende e se sensibiliza com tudo o que aconteceu. Apaixonei pelo filme ali! A Disney melhora cada vez mais, mais especifico a Pixar. "Wall-E" (2008), por exemplo, e um filme quase sem falas, mas voce entende tudo e nao fica chato nem uma vez! Adoro essas experimentacoes deles e o nivel de estetica que eles chegaram, a ponto de nao precisar de falas. Mas continuando... ja falei que o filme e maravilhoso? O 3D e legal, os personagens sao otimos, a historia e muito legal e fofinha. E o menininho gordinho? Vontade de apertar inteiro!!! Recomendo demais! Quem nao viu ainda ta perdendo, e quem viu, ve de novo!!!

I was super anxious to watch "Up" (2009). I had high hopes for the 3D and didn't really bother to know the story. A few days before going to see the movie I read a revew on Veja (brazilian magazine) and then it came one of the rare times in which they interested me even more in watching a movie. They happened to mention that the opening part of the movie was very sweet. In about 15 minutes they tell the story of the old men's life, without any lines (with the exception of the very first beggining). It is extremely moving! With a succession of images you are able to understand and be moved by everything that happens. It was right then that I fell in love with this movie! Disneu gets better every time, specially Pixar. "Wall-E" (2008), for instance, it's a movie that barely has lines, but you understand everything and it never gets boring. I love their experiments and the aesthetics they accomplished, that a movie doesn't really needs lines. But back to the movie... did I say it is wonderful? The 3D is nice, the characters are great, the story is cool and sweet. What about the chubby little boy? Wish I could squeeze him! Totally recommend it. Those who haven't watched are missing out and those who did watch should watch it again.

Ainda no Brasil fui assistir "A Verdade Nua e Crua" (2009), com a Katherine "Izzie" Heigl e o Gerard Butler, dirigido pelo Robert Luketic, de "Legalmente Loira" (2001) e outros. Vou falar a verdade: gostei! Mas nao e nada de morrer nao, mas num ano fraco de comedias romanticas esse foi uma boa surpresa. Me diverti muito. Acho que vale uma ida a locadora para quem curte genero.

Still in Brazil I went to watch "The Ugly Truth" (2009), com a Katherine "Izzie" Heigl and Gerard Butler, directed by Robert Luketic, from "Legally Blonde" (2001) and others. I will tell you the thruth: I liked it! But it is nothing to die for, but in a weak year for romantic comedy this was a good surprise. I had a lot of fun. I think it's worth going to the video store for those who enjoy the genre.

Peco desculpas aos meus leitores, mas muita coisa aconteceu e nao tive a oportunidade de postar. A boa noticia e que sim, continuo indo ao cinema e vendo filmes e que agora estou em NYC! Tenho alguns filmes que vi no Brasil e ate o fim desta semana vou atualizar. Mas a partir da semana que vem, posto os filmes que tenho visto por aqui. Alguns vao coincidir com o que esta passando ai, mas a tendencia e postar novidades e filmes que ainda estao por chegar na terrinha! Outra novidade e que agora vou postar em ingles tambem, para que o pessoal daqui possa seguir! O importante e ressaltar que o blog e bem despretencioso, e pretende manter o tom de conversa entre amigos, ao inves de blogs pseudo-cult e intelectuais, que voce tem que fazer aquele esforco pra acompanhar (nao que nao sejamos capazes de nos expressar e entender, maaaas... vamos combinar que tem dia que caaaaaansa!). Portanto, o tom e leve! Estamos aqui para passar o tempo e nos divertir! Um abraco para os que ja nos acompanham e para os que vem por ai!!!!

I apologize to my readers, but a lot has happened and I didn't have the opportunity to post. The good news are that yes, I still go to the movies, but now I am in NYC! I still have some movies I watched in Brazil and i will update them by the end of this week. But starting next week I will post about the movies I have been watching here. Some will have been released in Brazil by the same time, but the tendency is to post news and movies that are yet to get there. Another news is that I will also write in english, from now on, so that more people can follow. The important thing to stress is that the blog is unpretentious, and intents to keep a causal friendly tone, instead of pseudo-intelectual blogs that you have to make an effort to keep up (not that anyone here isn't able to express and understand buuuut...... that can be tyring!). For all that, the tone is light! We are here to spend a good time and have fun! All the best to the ones that already follow me and for those yet to come!
